New Orleans

I recently checked New Orleans off my travel bucket list. My little group and I chose to travel the weekend between Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day; a decision, I must say, that was nothing short of brilliant. I have no desire to insert myself into excessively large/drunk crowds of people. Additionally, we happily exchanged a few days of Cleveland winter for some much needed sunshine and palm trees.

Our NOLA weekend appropriately began with coffee cocktails from a cozy coffee shop just one block from our Airbnb, followed by a short walk to Frenchmen Street to experience the nightlife. A little bit of food and a lot of music later, we decided that this city makes a great first impression.

By the way, our Airbnb was pretty darn cute.

Itinerary: Bourbon Street and beignets by day… jazz and cigars by night.

Turns out cigars aren’t quite my thing…

Over the course of three short days, we experienced a musical assortment of classic rock, jazz, freestyle rap, blues, brass band, and my personal favorite, hip-hop/trap jam violin by the crazy talented New Thousand band. If you’re thinking “what the hell is trap jam?”, congratulations, you’re normal. But it’s pretty amazing. Google it. Oh, and let’s not forget about the percussion stylings of Washboard Chaz who apparently has a website, and this makes me happy.

Needless to say, the New Orleans music scene made a lasting impression.
